FRANCE 

France is a country located in Western Europe, is sovereign and a member of the European Union. It has a total area, between islands and the mainland, of 643,801 km2. Its capital is Paris, one of the most touristic cities in the world, crossed by the Seine River.

Geography

With a surface area of 551,500 km2 (675,417 km2 with the overseas territories), France extends 1,000 km from north to south and from east to west.

It is the third largest country in Europe, after Russia and Ukraine (the second largest if the overseas departments are included).

Metropolitan France has four coastlines:

• North Sea
• English Channel
• Atlantic Ocean
• Mediterranean Sea
• The total length of the coastline is 3,427 kilometers. With the exception of the north and northeast coast of the border, the country is mostly surrounded by oceans, seas and natural borders: the Rhine, the Jura, the Alps and the Pyrenees.

Weather

France has a temperate and pleasant climate. Four climatic zones share the hexagon:

• oceanic climate (West): frequent rainfall; low temperatures.
  
  
• the continental climate (center and east): harsh winters and warm summers.

• Mediterranean climate (Southeast): Hot and dry in summer; rains from October to April (humid and temperate climate); many sunny days.
  
  
• mountain climate  (above 600-800 m of altitude): high precipitation; snow from three to six months a year.
